Alan gave us a scare

When I got home last night from my mums my OH said Alan wasn't well...

I went into the room and he was sat in the bottom of a table (he never sits there usually but the last time he did was when he stopped eating) he wasn't moving and hadn't eaten all evening. He let me pick him up and just sat on my lap without me holding him -usually he'd jump straight off.

I said we'd try to syringe some weetabix into him to keep him going until we called the vets in the morning but when we tried to he put up a fight so i thought he prob wasn't that bad yet. I massaged his tum for a bit and then put him back- he kept trying to hide his head which was odd, putting it under cushions and behind things!

Didn't sleep much i was so worried about him, when i got up this morning though he was running round and he ate some herbs when I put them in

I think maybe the heat just got to him yesterday but I'm going to keep an eye on him. Does anyone know why he was trying to hide his head though?? I found this v strange!

Re: Alan gave us a scare

has he eaten anything other then herbs? i would still get him checked out hun, it could be the start of dental spurs irritating his mouth and putting him off "normal" food
but it could just as well be the heat too like you said

Re: Alan gave us a scare

George and Ember have been hating this heat as well. They spent most of yesterday flopped out on the bathroom floor to keep cool. Every window in the house open and still its so hot. I moved the fan back into the living room and they sat in front of it, funny watching Georges ears flap about from the breeze but if a rabbit could smile he definately would be.

Not sure about the head hiding though.

He has only eaten herbs today but they don't get pellets till the evening, will see if he goes for them tonight. I don't think it is his teeth as he had them checked a couple of months ago unless they grow that quick?

I put ice blocks under their bed and they do stay in the shade on the cool tiles. I can't leave any windows open as we get cats- think I'll try to set a fan up but it'll have to go in the kitchen otherwise they'll munch the wires! Luckily its a bit cooler here today. Alan is still moulting so i wondered if maybe his fur is still a bit too thick

Re: Alan gave us a scare

rabbit teeth do grow very quickly and a lot can change in a rabbits mouth in just a couple of weeks

has he eaten any hay at all today only eating herbs is worrying

you could buy some cat mesh to put over your windows to stop cats being an issue

Re: Alan gave us a scare

I'm at work now so don't know if he's eaten more than that. The pellets had gone this morning and I doubt Lottie could have managed them all herself, its hard to tell who eats what with the 2 of them. Will check on him at lunchtime though and see if I can tempt him with a treat as they are hard and crunchy.

That cat mesh is a good idea, might have to invest in some of that-thanks!

Rosie has her teeth rasped every 4 weeks without fail. The vet can notice a difference without two weeks of her teeth being done. They really do grow fast.

Alan ate a treat as soon as I got in and has been munching hay most of the evening

I think it was the heat yesterday, or he was just having an off day. So pleased though, he had us worried!!
