House Rabbit

Is it much harder and more time consuming to look after a house rabbit then one that lives outside? My GF really wants one but she wants to be sure she has enough time to look after him.

Re: House Rabbit

First of all rabbits get lonely if kept on their own so if your gf is thinking of getting a bunny then a bonded pair would be best.

I have my pair indoors and I find it sooooo much easier than when they were outside.
I now dont have to struggle with cleaning a large hutch and run (I have back problems) all I have to do daily is clean their litter trays.
The bunnies have become ALOT more friendly since coming in and are always in bed with me in the mornings for cuddles
I find it easier to moniter them now they're inside and can tell sooner if they are ill/not acting themselves.

So yeah I think housebunnies are great. They are very easy to litter train and if they have a friend you dont have to worry about them becoming bored/lonely when you're not there.

Re: House Rabbit

As Purple said ideally you should have at least a bonded pair. Have you thought about popping along to your rescue to check out the bonded pairs? that way you will already know their personalities and they will already be vacc's and neutered

I have 8 house rabbits and I find it much, much easier that outdoor buns. I clean their litter trays twice a day and I find that I can spend so much more time with them when they are inside

Re: House Rabbit

Yeah all mine (8) are inside at the moment. Two were outside but bought them in cos one loses weight now when outside yet puts it back on when inside! I find it a lot easier...is better for cuddling time too...the ones who have always been in are a lot freindlier and tolerant lol of me than the other two.

But yes bunnies need friends of their own species too.

Re: House Rabbit

I have one rabbit, currently outside but ive been looking as bringing him in.
Do you think if I contacted RSPCA they'd be open to me taking him there to see if he would bond with another one?

They should be Is he neutered? They would want him neutered 6 weeks before you took him to try and bond I would think. Its worth ringing any local rescues that have rabbits
