Help!! Rabbit not eating!

My rabbit Norris has a very large abscess on the side of his mouth, i have been to the vet who have given me anibiotics and a pain killer (Meloxicam and Baytrill) but now he is not eating.

He is drinking very keenly from a bowl and i have managed to syringe some recovery liquid feed into his mouth. Is there anything else i can give him to help? perhaps something of liquid form.

My vets is not open again until tuesday and i can not afford the emergencies vets in my area (£60+ just for the consultation)

He is 11 years old so i am extremely worried about him.

Re: Help!! Rabbit not eating!

I would ring your emergency vet for advice (a phone call doesn't cost anything) especially as he has an abcess. It could have popped inside his mouth and cause all manner of problems.
If you speck to your vet and mention that you can't afford it they might sort out a payment plan for you, is there not someones credit card you can borrow?

As he has stopped eating he needs to see a vet tonight.

^ this

if he is not eating he could develop new complications, such as stasis, he needs to see a vet now, it could be he is in a lot of pain so doesnt want to eat, or he may already be in stasis, in which case he will need gut stimulant

Re: Help!! Rabbit not eating!

Like others have said you need to see the emergency vet, usually if you phone your normal vet when they're closed they will give you the phone number for the one they prefer.

In the meantime try a bit of veggie baby food to get him eating something. Ella's Kitchen is a really good brand to use as theres no additives in it, carrot, apple and parsnip one always gets mine eating.
