Weather report - is it too cold for outdoor buns?

Worried about the weather outlook - minus 12 being predicted and worried about my bunnies. They are in big hutch with lots of hay and straw (which they eat alot of too!) and have covers over hutch at night. What more can we do? Is it getting too cold for them to stay out? Dusty stayed out all last winter and was fine.

Dont know much about rabbits but when you think of the wild ones out in the cold I would think that with straw and shelter etc they would be ok

They're fine in temperatures as low as -20 as long as they have plenty of bedding and partners to keep each other warm. You can always use a heatpad with them on the really cold nights as well. I have a group of three living in big shed with a kennel stuffed with hay as their bed. I give them a snugglesafe heatpad in the kennel at about 9 in the evening so it lasts through the coldest part of the night.

Just make sure the hutch has no leaks and no draughts then they'll be fine.

Thanks, that reassures me. However, they keep shoving their straw and hay out of the bed! I'll try a heat pad - we were talking about them earlier. I'm just so glad we rescued that poor black bunny the other week now it's got this cold.

Mine were outdoors last winter. They were fine but their water bottle would freeze. Bubble wrap and an extra fluffy sock as a cover helped. I still used to set an alarm for 4am to go and check on them and make sure the water was ok though. They were fine, I was the cold grumpy one
