Water bottle or Bowl?

Both of my rabbits have had a Bowl since they could drink. They wont use a bottle. I dont even think they know what one is!

Does anybody elses Rabbit drink out of a Bowl? I know its quite common but i just wondered how common?

Re: Water bottle or Bowl?

Yep all mine have bowls. Seems more natural for them to drink from a bowl rather than bottle plus the ones outside don't have to suffer frozen spouts even with the bottle covers. I use a medium dog bowl for them rather than the small rabbit ones so it holds more water and takes longer to freeze.

Re: Water bottle or Bowl?

See i did think that its more natural for them. I was just curious as i dont knwo many rabbit owners myself.

I agree, rabbit bowls are way to small. Mine just have household oval bowls, nice to know that it isnt out of this world!

Alot of new rabbit owners tend to go straight for the bottle but i find it much easier with a bowl.

Bottles can be chewed and have a habit of leaking as well. Besides since my outdoor lot live in a shed theres no where to attach a water bottle. I used to use bottles but found with temperature changes the pressure changes in teh bottle making it leak no matter what we done to stop it so the hutches would end up soggy every morning.

Re: Water bottle or Bowl?

I use a bowl. I used to have a bottle for him but the ball kept getting stuck so he couldn't get any water out so I switched to the bowl

Re: Water bottle or Bowl?

My rabbits have always had a bowl. The only time I had a bottle was when I kept Alan in a dog crate prior to bonding with Lottie and that was only because he kept knocking the bowl over because there wasn't much room.

My reason for a bowl is I just think not much comes out of a bottle whereas if they are really thirsty they can lap up more water and faster from a bowl... whether thats actually correct though I don't know. Now they're house rabbits I have nothing to secure a bottle to anyway

I would never give Rini a bowl because she has a habit of picking up her bowls and flinging them across the cage so god knows what state her cage would be in if there was water in one!

Lol, mine are the same! I dont think it would be a good idea! Athough I often put one outside in the summer, it doesnt matter if they tip it or throw it then!
