Housing for a conti

Hi ya

I just wondered if anybody could let me know how they house their contis or show me any pics?

When i had Stan he had free run of the house but when i get my next one i want to be able to house him up at night times when we go to bed, although he will still eb in the house, in the conservatory. Stan was far too spoilt lol but he was my baby but im just wanting to make sure i get something big enough but struggling to find something at the moment. My OH said he will try and build something but would also like some ideas if anybody can help?

Im hoping to get my conit asap so need urgent ideas - thanks

Thanks

I don't have conti's but with my two house rabbits I just made a hip height gate across the kitchen and shut them in there when we go out and at night. They get the run of the kitchen so can still exercise but they're shut in a place where they can't do much damage to our stuff. Could you shut your future conti in your conservatory whilst you can't watch him/her?

Hi Kammie

Thats what we did with Stan, Just locked him in the kitchen/conservatory when we went out and at night but OH doesnt want to do that again, he wants it to sleep somewhere at night and then run free when we are there.

I don't have a conti giant but we built Leo a pen for nighttime and when we were out. It's 6x4ft but I'm not sure what a giant breed would need

You may have to build something then, I doubt any store bought cage or pen would be anywhere near big enough for a giant. You may be able to find a run of some kind on ebay to keep him in but would probably need a cover for is since a conti can probably jump fairly high and get out of the puppy pen style with an open top.

Re: Housing for a conti

Hiya,

I have one which has free run of the kitchen blocked off by a gate.

The other has free run of the living room when we are in (which is most of the time). Otherwise he stays in a dog cage. I would rather he had a free run of the whoel house but he seems to like the Skirting boards!

Im sorry you lost Stan He looks lovely in his photo! I lost my Conti giant, Pepper in June. I cried for a week

Re: Housing for a conti

Hiya,

It is SO sad. I dont think people realise the heartbreak when you lose a house rabbit. They are part of the family. I am lucky enough to be graced with 2 of her Kitc (who are now 6 months old). She died 3 weeks after they where born so i hand reared them. however i would never breed again, i couldnt go through that again! so i now have Ralph and Daphne neutured.

Ralph sleeps in a 1.5 metre by roughly 70 cm cage. It sounds really small compared to him but i only work 10-3 so im at home all the other times!

He was in the kitchen and his sister was in the living room but he stopped eating and got deppressed so i brought him back to the lounge. I am trying to get them bonded but she needs time to heal after her spay. So far though they seem to hate eachother!

Sorry now im giving you my life story!

Ralph seems to be happy with his cage, i really would love for them to be friends eventually so he can live in the kitchen where he cant destroy everything.

I use the edge guards which are made to stop a baby hitting there head hard on table edges etc. Its stopped him chewing the doors frams etc. That could be another option? Its not that pretty though but definatly does the job!

the first photo is of Pepper (their mum) and the agouti/black one is Ralph and the Haaskluer type is Daphne.
