Unhappy My new baby bunny!

Hello everyone
Trisket, my baby black ND came home on Friday... but ever since, he's been running from when I try to pet him I don't know what to do!!! I can't even pick him up to take him out of his cage and let him run about for a while..

Re: My new baby bunny!

You've only had him a couple of days, it's still very early days.
If he's particularly skittish I wouldn't even be trying to catch him at this point.

Sit quietly by his cage talking softly and maybe reading a book/doing a crossword/not paying him attention, once he's sure you're not interested him he'll probably be more interested in you. Offer him treats if he comes near but don't try to stroke him until he's comfortable with you - it will just scare him and probably take longer for you to bond.

Thanks for the advice .
He was alright with me when I visited him when he lived in his old home. But they probably get a little stressed leaving their mum right? & adjusting..
Also quite worried that I won't be able to put him in the travelling cage to go to the vet next week!
Hope it all works out with me and Trisket!!

Re: My new baby bunny!

Yeah, I'd imagine it would be stressful going from being amongst other rabbits to being alone for the first time, especially if he's only little. He may be lonely - are you intending to keep him as a single housebun?

I'd suggest putting food in to the carrier and letting him hop in himself. Maybe leave the carrier in his area until then so he can investigate and get used to it and won't be worried about going in to it.
That way if you're not at the point of handling him it should be as stress free as possible.

Re: My new baby bunny!

The more you handle and cuddle the more he will begin to know your not going to hurt him, be confident and calm.
This is one thing i tell all new owners when buying a baby from me, never fails.
Im not a believer in the make them come to you thing (just my opinion) as ive had many try this and it takes a long time.
I had a really skitty baby once and it took the owners 2 days and that bun then came to the new owner.
Keep up the good work and your baby will come running to you.
Oh and always use treats

I might stress him out though I don't want him to hate me! Lol!
But thanks I'll try that...
What treats would you recommend I give Trisket??

And a blummin good one

I got 2 buns from Frags and they are the tamest, happiest rabbits I have had, I carried on handling them every day, even of they didnt really want it and Kara is the ultimate mummys girl and both are happy to be stroked, picked up etc etc.... my other 4 who I tried the spft approach with will come near me but dont really like fussing or handling.
That said, give him time to get used to his new home, he should settle a bit anyway!
