Worrywort!

I think I am too much of a worrier to own rabbits.

I've just gone out to check my new rescue bun (Jaspers soon-to-be-wife). There are a few soft stools in her cage, and she seems to have a very wet nose. I don't want to stress her out anymore by taking her to the vets after the week she has been through, but I couldn't forgive myself if I just ignored it and she got a lot worse.

So poor Eva/Jade is off to the vets tomorrow morning! I hope it doesn't throw her over the stress edge

Re: Worrywort!

rabbits do do runny poos all the time, but there meant to re eat them.

Have you change her food at all? some times even a change in hay is enough to cause minor runs.

Is she out the way of any drafts? this can cause a runny nose?

If shes full of beans I would let her settle.

Its a good idea to get some good bacteria sachets (forgotten the name) and some panacur from your vets for before/during bonding. and maybe just incase some of the recovery food

Thank you for the advice. I've postponed the vet trip. The poor girl has had a huge change to her environment. I have got some pellets from the rescue place as change over - but everything else is different! I've stopped giving her fresh stuff until her tummy settles down. So just hay and pellets at the moment.

She is in the garage at the moment so no drafts.

She seems to be in good spirits. This morning when I woke up she had escaped from her cage and was snuggled up next to Jaspers! Took a while to catch her though! Now I'm worried about all the things in the garage she could've eaten that would hurt her, but she does seem fine and I suspect she was out most of the night! And how on earth she got out in the first place! Lucky there was no escape from the garage!

Looks like I have two cheeky monkey rabbits!!!

Re: Worrywort!

Ahh bless you. You do sound like a worrier!

Try not to worry, a runny nose could be just change of temp / draft so dont panic.

Runny poo's are normal as they eat them to re-digest like emzybabe said.

try not to panic too much about her escaping, i think its sweet that she was snuggled up to jaspas cage for company, looks like you have a match made in heaven already :-)

Keep us updated! xx

Thank you. I feel a bit calmer about it all. Her wet nose seems to be better.

She doesn't seem to be eating the poos, just leaving them and stepping on them. They stink! I've been taking them out of her cage otherwise she lays in them :S She hasn't had many normal poos or wees, but from what I've read everywhere it is probably down to stress. I've left her with plenty of hay and a few pellets to eat, and water to drink but nothing else so hopefully it will right itself soon.

Lottie doesn't eat all of hers... she will tread in them and then leave little footprints everywhere! I have to soak them and scrape them off the floor each week... dirty girl! The rescue did warn me that she does that though. So you may just have a lazy rabbit like my Lottie!

Hehe! That sounds like her! She has brightened up no end - eating lots of hay and drinking. I am even allowed a pat and cuddle over the last day or two!

I let her out in the house for a big run today. She had a ball. I got bunny kisses from them both this arvo

Re: Worrywort!

She is still leaving about 5-6 a day. She is still only eating hay. Shall I assume it is just the way she is, or shall I take her to the vets for a checkup?

She was vet checked last week when I got her, she seems in good spirits, eating lots of hay and drinking lots of water. It's been a week, so if she was sick I assume she would have gone down hill pretty quickly?

Sorry to harp on..I just don't want to ignore it if she is really ill?

Thanks
