Advice please!
Hi, I'm new to this site and could really do with some advice.
My last rabbit died in the summer at a grand age of 8, she lived outside. I have bought two babies, now 4months old. They live in a hutch outside but i bring them in at night for some love and attention. To start with they just used to sit on my knee and be stroked. They're now more confidant and venture off my knee across the sofa where they stretch out and are usually happy to just lie there or come sit with me. Two nights ago I brought them in as usual and they both went a little bit mad scratching at my clothes and biting/nibbling them. I ended up taking the jumper off and giving it to them but now i'm worried they're just going to eat anything i have on. Am i wrong to keep bringing them in? I'm a bit nervous to move them indoors full time, as i dont want them to chew my wooden tables, though i'm willing to give it a go! What about eating my clothes? Why have they started doing that? Any suggestions gratefully recieved. ![]() Emma. |

Re: Advice please!
Rabbits like things to do, so if you brought them inside maybe put some toys down for them and tubes they can run through, rabbits also like attention, maybe it's there way of getting your attention, also rabbits chew it's what they do so if u don't want your table chewed don't bring them in and any other items like wires plastic, skirting boards sofas.

Re: Advice please!
the digging is just territorial behavior, my George does this when I stop stroking him.
Have both your rabbits neutered and they will be a lot more friendly. They wont do much damage to old wood, pine is also poisonous. They like and need things to chew like willow balls and apple twigs as their teeth constantly grow, but most importantly good quality hay not just the cut up stuff from most pet shops. Indoors mine have done little damage other than a few phone charger cables which was my fault for leaving them out.

Re: Advice please!
Thankyou all for your advice. I've found a suitable indoor hutch, so after reading your advice i'm going to bring them in over winter and see how they are. I'll get them neutered while they are living indoors. If things dont work out they can go back outside next spring/summer in the warmer weather. I hate to think they'd be stuck outside and get less attention in winter weather.
I've been reading other posts and have already started stocking up on toys/chews to interest them when they move indoors. best one yet was filling a kitchen roll tube with carrot peeling, parsley and hay. they absolutely love it. so big thankyou, ![]() |
