Reasons to get a Rabbit.

My partner and I were talking about what pets we are thinking of getting when we eventually get our own place a while ago, and I said about having a hose rabbit. He said no, I asked why and his response (basically) was "all they do is sit in the corner and poo, they don't play or run around and they are scared of people". He's never had rabbits, and most people's rabbits he's met are like this because they are all hutch rabbits that barely get handled. This surprised me as he loves animals, but I guess he's just not seen enough of the good side of rabbits to like them.

So, I want to prove him wrong, and I need the help of owners who have rabbits because they actually love them, not just because their kids wouldn't stop crying if they didn't get them.

What reasons would you gave for getting a rabbit?
Why did you get one(them) in the first place?
What's the best thing about your rabbit(s)?

Thank you!! ^^

Re: Reasons to get a Rabbit.

rabbits can be so cheeky and funny with all there antics. They like to throw toys about and some will learn tricks. They also if taught dont poo every where as they can be litter trained. If handled correctly they can be very loving.

Re: Reasons to get a Rabbit.

I had 2 house rabbits. One was perfectly litter trained, never chewed anything, ad really affectionate and would follow you round for fuss.
The other pooped everywhere, chewed several holes through the plaster to the brickwork and thought being affectionate meant headbutting you to make you move!!

Re: Reasons to get a Rabbit.

The reasons I would give for getting a rabbit are:

they're adorable, especially when they flop out on their side or stick their little feet in the air.
they're playful and curious about everything. If i'm outside, they want to know what i'm doing.
they're cuddly and when you give them a cuddle, it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside

I got rabbits because I wanted a pet that I could call my own. They were my first pets that I truely owned. We had had rabbits before in the family so they weren't totally new to us, but I loved their cuteness and their playful natures.

The best thing about my rabbits are their little faces that greet you in the morning, wanting their breakfast and a little kiss and a cuddle.

Re: Reasons to get a Rabbit.

I sometimes forget I have two house rabbits and have dogs instead with the way they behave. Both of them get full run of the hosue whilst we're home and when first let loose in the morning they go for a mad run doing laps of the house and running into walls. I can't open the fridge anymore without one of them climbing my leg to get some veg from me. Like dogs they like to run off with random items they find on the floor to hide from you, usually in their bed, Anything on the floor or even in their climbing range is theirs.

Like Emzy said though it is a two way relationship they will love you as long as you show them love and take the time to gain their trust. At first they do hide away will sit away from you whilst they judge you but after a few treats and a nice head rub they soon start to trust.

Show your hubby this for an idea of what house rabbits can do
YouTube - The REAL "Energizer Bunny"

If your lucky you may even get your hair done for free (well maybe for a carrot)
YouTube - mrurt's Channel

And here's my two playing to prove to your hubby bunnies can play (ignore oh's typing he was on the laptop whilst I was filming)
YouTube - George playing

As for why I have rabbits, I've never been without them. Theres pictures of me from when I was about three playing with my first rabbit.
