Dirty Bottom

Can any one give me advice?

When i got pebbles out from his hutch this morning, his bottom area was covered in poo

I know they do the softer poo (really cant remember the name) then they eat it and digest it all again. But his bed was full of them and he'd obversly laid on them over night. Pebbles is usually a very clean bun and house proud always re-arranging his bedroom.

I cleaned him out and then put him out in his run hoping that he would clean his own bottom. But he didnt, so i cleanned it for him.

Any suggestions why this is happening?

Re: Dirty Bottom

Has he put on weight? Podgy bunnies can't bend round to clean their bum and eat the soft poo's. If he's gotten a bit on the podgy side a diet might be in order to make him lose a bit so he can reach his bum again.

Some bunnies are just lazy as well and don't want to eat the soft poo instead preferring pellets and veg.

Is he still doing normal poo's or are they all soft? It could be a sign of an upset tummy if they're all soft.

Keep an eye on his eating, drinking and poo for a couple of days. If he stops eating then straight to the vet same as if he's only doing soft poo and no nesquik type. Keep his bum cleaned if he isn't doing it himself. It may just be an odd lazy day but keep a close eye on him and see what his bum is like in the morning.

Re: Dirty Bottom

How much food are you giving him? (pellets or mix)

Re: Dirty Bottom

I took him too the vet last week for his myxi, and the vet said he's a perfect weight but doesn't want to put on any more weight.

he gets approx 10-12 hours excersise in his run daily, fresh water, hay, excel barn dried grass, a few pellets twice a day (hamster bowl size) fresh veggies, greens - cabbage, kale, broccoli, cucumber, cauliflower, occasional carrot, webabix, slice a burnt toast occasionally. (not all at the same time but this is what mixture he has)

i fed him about 4 strawberry tops on friday (rare treat), would this of possibly done it?

When i go him out of his hutch this morning the same thing again, lots of squashed mushy poos's but normal poo's aswell (nesquick lookalikes) he's had several wee's in the night as i clean it out every morning. He's been drinking as his water bottle and water bowl had less in there.

Ill keep an eye on him, but in himself he's very lively, perky like his usual mischievous self

Re: Dirty Bottom

Sounds to me like he is just over producing Cecotropes.
When Bluey did this I just cut his veg back a bit and that seemed to clear him up
