post op

I had my rabbit spayed 10 days ago, so she has been seperated but with my other rabbit for the past 10 days. The vet told me to keep them seperated for that long. After 7days I let them be together for literally a minute, and Samba was chasing her. I want to know if she is healed enough by now to endure an initial chasing , I'm not sure how he will react to her.

I think I should point out also she seemed totally back to herself 24 hours after op, I was surprised how quickly she seemed to heal; I feel she is back to normal but obvioulsy I don't know about internally. I certainly don't want to keep her confined to a small space for much longer!! Please advice thankyou.

Re: post op

I think you may have been given some bad advice by your vet. Separating bonded bunnies means you will probably have to try to re-bond them. Bonds can be broken within hours of separation. A friend of mine took one of her rabbits to be spayed and the vet advised that she take both rabbits together so that they were together when the one who had the op woke up.

When I got my rabbits spayed I didn't handle them for a few days even though they seemed to be ok. I would think 10 days is long enough for your rabbit to put up with some chasing, but keep an eye out for any signs that a fight might break out.

Good luck!

Re: post op

Vets no nothing about bonding buns very very bad advice im afraid, you are going to have to rebond them in a small neutral area.... back to square one thanks to your vet, sorry x

Re: post op

Thanks for the replies, maybe I didn't word it properly. They have been together but seperated with wire, so that they can sniff each other but he wouldn't have been able to harm her.
Do you think if he was going to fight or vice versa they may have been trying to attack each other through the wire? Nothing like that has happened thankfully, oh I'm worried now!
