Bunny advice need please.

Hi all,

I am looking to buy 2 rabbits. I am unsure between the dwarf lop and the mini lop. I am hopefully looking for little rabbits who will love to be picked up etc.

I am home most days so they will get a lot of love and attention. No other pets to worry about. But i would want them to live outside. Is it ok for these little rabbits to live outside in a hutch or would it be better to purchase a little shed that the hutch could be put in in the colder months?

Any advice on these breeds would be appreciated. I am located nr Burnley in Lancashire if anyone knows any good breeders with rabbits available.

Thank-you in advance.

These rabbits will be fine out doors in hutches, in the winter bubble wrap around the outside of the hutch will help insulate it to keep it warmer if you think its neccessary but they should be fine aslong as they are placed away from damp, draughty areas and not in too much sunight. If the hutch faces the sun for too much of the day they can overheat in the summer. the shed idea would be good to let them out into for exercise on colder or wetter days but if you have the time to let them play and exercise elsewhere then you can save yourself the expense and the extra cleaning.

Re: Bunny advice need please.

Thank-you Cassie! I was hoping it would be ok.

I will probably like to bring the bunnies into the kitchen/downstairs area to give them some exercise and attention, where there is no wiring for them to potentially chomp through! Plus it's cooler downstairs as i think in the lounge it will be too warm.

Plus on warmer days i have a large grassy garden, so will look for a large run that i can place them in.

Why not approach a rescue. They will be able to help and advice you. They would have a pair of bonded rabbits that should be spayed/neutered and will have have a good idea of their personalities. They should also be able to advice you on the best type of accomadation etc. Then if any problems or queries occur you will be able to refer back to them. Did you know that over 35,000 rabbits passed through rescues last year. So im sure there are a pair of rabbits out there waiting for you. Good luck.

Re: Bunny advice need please.

Yes i was thinking that after i asked about breeders. I would definitely much prefer to provide a home for 2 rescue rabbits. I would want young rabbits but i'm sure there are a lot of unwanted kits passing through these rescue centres.
I have been looking for hutches and i really like the ones with 2 levels. Would these be a good hutch to buy for 2 rabbits?

Thanks for your advice!

Re: Bunny advice need please.

HI any hutch that is wellmade sturdy weatherproof and with bolts that open and close securely is ok but the BIGGEST one that you can find would be best of all. I would think to house two rabbits and all their toys hay rack litter tray etc. you would need it to be minium 6ft. Sounds enormous I know but I have a female dwarf in a 6ft single storey and by the time shes got toys etc etc in she doesnt look lost. By the way was reading a article the other day said that rabbits need as much daily exercise as a small dog so I guess bigger the better as far as hutches are concerned.
