new bunny..........

hi all, I recently lost my dwarf lop girl at 5yrs old.

I have my 18 month old dwarf lop boy neutered and am getting a French lop doe today. she is 11 weeks old. should I just straight away put them both together in a dog crate I have got or should I wait until I get her neutered at 6 months old? the crate is the smallest you can get. I will put a water bottle on it for them to drink but when should I introduce food? I am quite nervous about bonding them and I want them to be happy.

any ideas, advice gratefully accepted.

thanks

x

Re: new bunny..........

I would personally wait until the female is 4-6 months old and get her neutered as her hormones will only get in the way of bonding.

Re: new bunny..........

hi thanks for your reply.

I cleaned them both down with wipes and smeared banana on their heads. then I tried them in a small crate together next to my washing machine on spin cycle, all was going well, female was laid in the corner just looking a bit scared and male was hopping around eating hay, once the cycle finished female started hopping about, male didn't like this and attacked her twice, he lunged forward and went to nip. he stopped each time when I squirted him with water. they were together for around an hour. after this initial trial I think they will be able to be bonded. I am setting up 2 crates in my spare room 3 inches apart and im going to swap them daily until she is neutered, this way they can get used to each other with out fighting. I am having her spayed in about 3 weeks time.

Male is dwarf lop Prince
Female french lop Lilly

fingers crosses. xx

Dusty was 2 years old and our big baby Willow was 8 months. They'd both been 'done' 8 weeks ago so hormones are settle. Bonded them a week ago and they are in love! So Paws and Claws will be right there!

Re: new bunny..........

Well I've just recently bonded 2 french lop girls (they were 9 weeks at the time) to my other 4, and I think they were treated as the babies of the group. The rabbits let them get away with alot more than they ever have each other!
I would try and see if it was me tbh, if it wasnt a huge problem when they met before, then they would proberly be ok. 3 weeks time only makes her 14 weeks or 3 1/2 months and most vets wont spay girls(especially giants) until they are 5-6 months old?
