Snuffles/Allergy?

I got a little mini lop called Jasper on Saturday. Sunday I noticed that he had a really red eye. I have been keeping an eye on him but today (Friday) when I got up his eyes were all watery. He also sneezed a couple of times.

I whisked him off to the vets and she checked him out, took his temperature etc. She said he seems fine, and gave him some ointment for his eyes to use over the next 5 days.

I got him home and he seems fine - skitting all over the house, doing blinkies and eating lots. I put him back in his hutch tonight when he got bored and he started sneezing again. No discharge from his nose but the fur around his eyes is still all wet. I thought maybe it was an allergy to the hay, so I have taken it all out of his cage tonight. I am a bit worried about him, as I have been reading up on snuffles and it says he needs antibiotics?

I had one bunny, Violet, who had a blocked tearduct and she had some magic cream. Another bunny, Clover, had the sneezes and she took antibiotics - can't remember the name of them but they were fine. Hope it clears up soon!

Re: Snuffles/Allergy?

Cheers,
I have been putting the cream on that the vet gave me. He has been surprisingly patient with me fussing around with his eyes. He just sat there and let me bath his eyes with saline and put the stuff on. They don't look much better but then again they look no worse!

My eli was unwell when I got him and he was really good with his eyes too, I think it helped us bond. Your bun is probably enjoying you grooming the bits of him that he can't reach and I bet he feels better for it, even if it doesn't look it. I did eli's with a cotton bud and approached him from the side while he had his breakfast and that seemed the easiest way for us personally.

Sorry I can't offer more help!
