Question Cleaning Troubles

Bit of an embarressing topic for Rini lol but I'm just wondering whats for the best.
She's having a bit of bum trouble. I don't know if its just cause she's really fluffy or she's getting too much veg or what but she does occasionally get her soft stools stuck on her fur. It obviously is getting cleaned off eventually as it isnt collecting and getting worse (and sometimes there's none). But I dont know if it's just that or her pee too but her fur is getting quite stained.
Thing is she's a very skittish rabbit and she wouldnt take too kindly to having a bath or having me clean her. I dont wanna scare her to death.

She has been making more of the soft stools and she's been annoying me by not cleaning them up right away and leaving some on my carpet >.< (wish she would just go in the cage and sort herself out!) but I dont know if it's just because she's getting a variety of veg each night.
I think her diet is pretty balanced and treats are only given as such.

I dont know whether I should just spray keep it clean on her to stop the stale smell or whether I should try a grooming wipe or sumthing... but I dont know if that would clean the stain up :/
I'm really against the idea of washing it as she has been going mental when getting cleaned/being in vet-like situations. She would probably try to launch herself at me and the last thing I want is her breaking her toe again

Wondered if this has happened to any of your buns and what you did to help the situation. Also wouldnt mind being told whether the binkying and leaving the poo on the floor is a normal thing... cause it's really annoying me >.< surely she should notice she is pooing.... she's so gross :/ lol

Re: Cleaning Troubles

Miffy would do the occasional softy on the carpet and forget to eat it, I would normally just call her over to it and she would eat it. Maybe try reducing her wet veg for a while and see if this helps

Re: Cleaning Troubles

hmm yeah she has been getting alot of like cucumber and celery.. maybe its the amount of liquid in them. Tho she is barely drinking at the moment so I dont suppose she is getting too much. But theres so little to actually buy her. I get her cabbage but you shouldnt feed too much of that and i get her carrots and supposedly you aint even meant to feed rabbits carrots!
Might get some more grass seeds and grow her a tray of grass.
And its not that she just leaves it and will eat it later... its that she MUST know she has some on her and then she runs around and binkies and flicks it around the floor o.O I was like.. WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?!?!? Either that or she starts eating and I want her to do it in the cage and she then flicks it on the floor. She doesnt always eat it tho and she leaves it even in her cage and she occasionally stands in it and gets it on her foot >.< she cleans it off eventually tho :/

Any ideas on cleaning her tho? I'm just a little concerned about the staining.. she's got a white fluffy underside and it isnt a good look :/ lmao

Re: Cleaning Troubles

I have used Jonsons dry shampoo for small animals it was about £3.99 a can and smells of strawberrys! it worked great to help bond my 2. the best bet is to get a friend to hold her on her back while you give her a wash and comb through I do this once a week with my 2 coz they are long haired.

Re: Cleaning Troubles

Lottie suffers from this - she will often leave her soft poos, tread in them and then hop all over the place leaving little 'footprints' there's no carpets in our house though so its not too bad for me to clean up.

They warned me about this when I rescued her though and said they didn't give her much veg which helped. I mainly feed her curly kale, brocolli and herbs as anything else is too watery for her. She's fine with just a handful a day, the problems start when Alan leaves his veg because he's found something exciting to do and she hoovers it up

I just check her over once a day, her bott is usually clean but sometimes it gets mucky and I just use tissue or baby wipes to clean her up

Re: Cleaning Troubles

Thanks for all the advice, I think I might try her on less watery veg for abit, I have cabbage, brocolli and carrots at the moment. There's a little cucumber left so I might as well use that up first. She gets a couple bits of different veg on the night aswell as her dry food. I leave her with veg and hay all day but she usually finishes off her dry food pretty early. I guess its most natural for buns to feed at night and morning when they are most active.

Noone else would even TRY to hold her on her back, she's so skittish and fussy, some days I cant even get her to behave. She can get quite frightened.. which is something new since our last vet visits as she used to be an angel at the vets and now she near tries to bite the vets face off. She just launches herself into my arms and wants to get back in the carrier.

I have before, held her on her back and my mam has tried to clean it but if its wet it just got smushed into her fur more... which is why I leave her to clean it off herself. When I get my pay in the bank I will invest in some grooming wipes and give her a scrub lol and I will use keep it clean to stop her smelling (she likes to sit with her bum right next to my head >.<)

I think it might just be the veg tho cause she seems to be producing alot and it just drops off her while she's moving. I'm not even sure if she knows shes doing it... so I lock her back up and let her clean herself... I'm just having to be on constant watch.

I've never thought of a human dry shampoo, I suppose you do get pet ones. If the wipes dont sort the staining out enough I might try a dry pet shampoo or something of the like.

Re: Cleaning Troubles

Wipes are good for a skittish bun as you can reach underneath them with a wipe on your hand rather than having to pick them up to clean. I know that if Alan ever needed a wash I think it'd take 4 people to hold him still, he becomes a little ferret when he wans to get away!

Re: Cleaning Troubles

Yeah I think that would be better for her. I can get her on her back but I always feel bad for her cause she clearly isnt pleased. But I need someone else to do everything else cause I cant hold her with one arm or put her on her back on my knees :/
And other days she just wont have any of it and just tries to kick like hell and freaks out...

I used to be so surprised when I took her to the vets as shes such a moody cow with me but they would just flip her over and she would barely move... but for some reason the last couple of times shes went she has REALLY freaked out.
It started when i took her to get her tails clipped.. she's normally an angel but she was strugling and I had to pin her down. Then she launched herself into my arms and tried to climb over my shoulder. I then wanted the vet to check her teeth and while she was looking she proper launched herself at the vets face and growled her head off. I was proper shocked, I thought she was gonna bite her face off o.O. She then backed up so far and fast that she nearly fell off the table... seriously... I dunno what changed her but I've never seen her act like that o.O I mean... she went to the vets regularly, to get her nails trimmed.
I dont really like doing them myself as I'm afraid of cutting the quick but I'm gonna have to, I'm not taking her to the vets again unless I really have to! But I normally brush her outside while she's molting but I took her outside and again. She was frightened of everything, every car, everything.. and she never has been. And she launched herself onto me again so I quicky brushed her tuffs out and took her back inside quickly... honestly, she gets worse with age!

Re: Cleaning Troubles

Aw, bless her. Our little Clover had soft poops all her life and she wasn't a 'pick me me up rabbit.' I used to have to hold her gently in her hutch and pull them off! Her fur was white so it got very discoloured. We even gave her a bath once (just warm water in a clean litter tray, but she wasn't too keen on that). Willow is totally different - she jumps in little puddles! I hope she's keeping those poops tidy x
