Relived... But angry at myself...

im so angry with myself....

Had rabbits for a while now, and with the 5 of them they do take alot of my time up, which i dont mind and love them all to pieces.

Doing my usual chores this morning and once i'd finished down the stables i went to the bottom of the garden to see to my buns...

Mike and Dave's hutch was open and to my devastation Dave wasn't in there. I burst into tears, searching around the end of the garden for him, but couldnt find him so went running down the garden to get the parents out of bed to help me search for him.

I climbed into the school field while mum and dad where searching in the vegtable garden, behind the sheds, in my grandads garden (lives next door and we have 1 big garden) i found this white pile near the bushes and screamed, but when i went running up to it, it was onyl a childs p.e shirt.

Very relived but still had'nt found him. After waking my neighbour up at 6:30 am to see if i could look in her garden (where he went last time he escaped from digging a hole whilst in his run... ) still no signs after about 45 minutes.

I was so upset, crying and crying and thinking i will never forgive myself. How could Mike be on his own, i was the one who adopted them both to give them an amazing home and yet... im careless and stupid enough to let this happen.

Then my grandad spotted him behind his greenhouse munching on mothers plants!!!

trying to catch the b*ggar was not amusing and a further hour, of me trying to encourage him to come out from underneath a 5 m x 5 m are of decking with food, etc still didnt work. Ended up grabbing the hose and squirting him through the gaps in the wood and eventually we caught him.

Ive been out and bought lots of toys and flavoured hay to say sorry, and even writing this im still getting upset with guilt and horrid thoughts that he may of been mr fox's gorment meal.

but yet still furious with myself that im a bad mummy .

Re: Relived... But angry at myself...

they can be little monsters when they want to be

I am terrified of the day when one of mine escapes. I always call them before I feed them treats so that they know their names and come to me, Miffy is great but George will come when I call Miffy thinking it just means food anyway :/ I'm sure if they were scared by something they wouldnt come to me tho

These things happen so dont blame yourself.

The important thing here, is you rallied everyone round and did everything you could to find him!

That makes you a good mummy xxx

Glad you found him safe and sound

I used to have nightmares about mine escaping all the time- my buns were double bolted and padlocked in 'just in case' I think my paranoia came from my first rabbit who lived in a sectioned off part of our stable and I forgot to shut the door one day.

Luckily she didn't get far- she was just sat in the stable thumping at the horses but she was so lucky not to have been trodden on!

I bet your rabbit just thought he was having an adventure!
