blankets??

i was wondering, since sweep is an indoor rabbit would i be able to use blankets in her cage rather than wood shaving/straw?? was just curious as it`d save so much mess plus be easier to bung in the machine etc. she has her hay rack so would still have that and her litter tray and a little cuddle cup as a bed.

she does spend a fair bit of her time just hopping round the house anyway but i wasn`t sure if using blankets instead in the cage would be a bad idea?

Re: blankets??

sweep`s perfectly litter trained....my leg = potty

in her cage she does them all in the same area though. i just think it`s save so much time if i could just have loads of blankets and swap them around on cleaning day rather than having to shovel everything out etc

Re: blankets??

Bebe rabbit is long haired so she cant have wood shavings in her cage. I buy poundshop blankets very often (sometimes primark ones if there cheap enough) and i fold it or cut it to line the cage bottom, then i put lots of hay in too. She loved it so much i bought her a comfy bed too!

Now shes in with the other 2 short haired rabbits i do the same, and the other two think its brilliant! Since they all loved it ive started doing it with Summer too. I usually put a fleecy bed in the hide away bit, then put a blanket on the floor of the upstairs bit, then use wood shavings downstairs in the cage.

I do this for my mice too since they cant have wood shavings x

Re: blankets??

I have loads of blankets around the house. I bought them in ASDA when they had the fleecy ones for about £2. Embre loves nothing more than digging in the blanket and moving it around to make it comfy then flops out on it. I use blankets in the shed too, its more comfy and cheaper too. The blankets I have just get chucked in the washing machne once a week and once they've been spun they're almost dry when they come out, within an hour of them leaving the machine they go back on the floor to the rabbits as they dry so fast.

Re: blankets??

I bought some cheap fleece at a haberdashery and I use that in Rini's cage. I also have an old bath towel under the fleece in the main part just for comfort and incase she did make any mistakes or the water bottle leaked or anything lol
