nail clipping!

gracie needed her nails trimming, allthough we kept away from the quick on a couple of ocassions she really flinched and pulled her paw away as i went 2 snip it, this upset me and the mrs so left her after that and gave her a good fuss as we felt soooo guilty!

we were terrified we'd actually hurt her, will we have caused pain or will it have just been the stress of being handled so much

Re: nail clipping!

when my OH does bobbys nails he pulls away the vet did it for us before that and showed us how to do it and he was pulling away she said it was cause he has tickley feet......

We now get him to play dead when doing it as he doesn't move an inch but he will still move his feet a bit it's hard watching as i feel he gets stressed at times too but he is fine after it we usually give him a treat after doing it.

Re: nail clipping!

Lottie flinches sometimes when I'm just about to snip even though I'm nowhere near the quick- I think its a bit of worry on their part-for all they know you might be too far down and they won't know until you've snipped that they are actually ok. It won't cause them any pain as long as they don't bleed, you just have to keep telling yourself your doing them a favour. I stop after each foot and give Lottie a treat to calm her down
