Smile A death, and 2 new bunnies

2 weeks ago my youngest son went out side to feed the rabbit and sadly he was dead. His name was Casper, he was pushing 9 years old.We got his as a easter present for my now 10 year old son! the kids were CRUSHED.this is Casper

So i did some searching and we found a Mini Lop bunny, 5 weeks old. the kids wanted her so we went and got her. The kids named her May because she was born May 12th. They like to call her May May

Then a few days ago A friend of mine was wondering if we wanted another bunny. They have a mini lop a boy named storm, he is about 6 months she said she cant handle his urine (she is pregnant)...so now we have 2 Mini Lops

Re: A death, and 2 new bunnies

No offence but May shouldn't be away from her mum if she is actually 5 weeks old. Rabbits aren't fully weaned until about 7 weeks old, removing them from mum earlier means they won't have gotten all the nutrients and antibodies they need from mums milk. Any rabbit should be at least 8 weeks old before being sold or removed from mum. If I've gotten the wrong end of the stick and the 5 weeks is a mis-type or there was a reason for her being seperated so young then I apologise.

As for your friend saying she can't handle the rabbit urine thats a load of rubbish. I'm guessing she's refering to the toxo-something-or-other I can't remember the name of, which is only from cats poo so changing cat litter trays is a no no when pregnant but theres nothing in rabbit wee or poo that can harm mum or baby. I'm pregnant myself and still cleaning out the litter trays for 5 rabbits and theres a few others on here who have recently had babies or have children and still handled the rabbits.

Either way they are two very cute rabbits.

I would have a good read of the thread at the top of this forum entitled "important info for new rabbit owners" theres a lot of valuable information there all in one place and is well worth reading even though this isn't your first rabbit.

Re: A death, and 2 new bunnies

We got May from a Lady who raises rabbits and shows them at fairs..maybe she was mistaken but she said she was born may 12th.

My friend said the smell of the urine was making her sick, she has severe morning sickness, i cant sit there and tell her its nothing and in her head because when i was pregnant with my 4 i never experienced it at all. so i have no idea what thats like...
