Muscovy duck problem, lump on belly area, advice please!
I have kept on a nice lavender and white drake, v lavender. good looking chap, is nice and big, around 13 weeks old. However, all of a sudden I have noticed this lump/hernia/protrusion on his underside, belly area, towards the left leg. He is eating fine and walking alright, and drinking.
It does not seem to be affecting him, but was rather hoping to keep him for breeding as I have just got rid of my duck duck drake lavender trio, having had two to start with.
It looks to me like a crescent moon disc popping out, not quite reaching the floor but still quote noticeable. I thought at first it was feathers as I picked him up and it was flat, turned on back in my hands and still flat, but it seems to pop out when he is walking or standing. His stools are similar to the other 11, squirts of squid ink black and greens. However, some are sometimes a clearer yellow, green colour, or just clear. Could it be a collapsed rectum or bowel?
Like I said, no discomfort have i seen so far. gently pushed down on belly when upside down and things were moving around, like ligaments but felt like the bones were lose!! I know this would not be likely as he would be in pain.
They are not pets, and most of the black and white drakes are going to be used for the table. But I kept him with the other unrelated white ducks to breed from. But it looks like he will go with the others for meat at this rate.
If it is one of those things that just looks weird and he can live with it then fine, if it will cause problems then I need to get back my other drake to breed from or find another soon.
Has anyone heard of this, what could it be. sorry no image but will try and get one.
Many thanks in advance,
James
