Re: New To Keeping Chickens... - What Is Grit?

If you are feeding solely layers pellets you wont really need much grit as it is already included. If you feed a lot of scraps then the hens will definately need poultry grit or crushed oyster shell or they will very soon bung up and get an impacted crop from all the food. Chickens digest by crushing the food in their crop. Too much goo and it can get blocked.
