Exclamation I Really Need To Know This.. (and Quick!)
Hello. I am getting chickens this afternoon and I have just thought: 'Do they need a light in their hen house?
I REALLY NEED TO KNOW THIS!
And any other chicken tips appreciated.

Mine dont have a light but they have air holes that let in the light when it is light,if that makes sence

They only go to sleep in the dark unless they have some knitting to finish. I thought about it i must admit. I think some people have a dim light but its not essential.

I give mine the bag pf prewn crackers when i have had a chinese. RThey run so fast when they have a whole cracker to protect

Spagetti (pasta)is another thing they love. I just throw the sticky mess in, they love ripping it up

The short answer is no. They need ventilation and if at all possible a source of natural light, but not essential if only kept in over night.

My chicken lives in the garden all day and then at night she goes into her pen by herself and settles down for the night. It has no light or heat but lots of bedding and i keep the draughts to a minimum.

Mine are in a shed with a run attached and then they're inside on a night. - Away from Mr. Fox.
