Re: Puzzled help please

Hi Kerry,

I have never heard of a chicken laying two eggs per day. The laying cycle is 25 hours so it is possible, they miss a day then but maybe one very late in the day after they have gone to bed and another the next day so it seems they have laid two. Soft shells and small eggs are usually a sign of coming to the end of the lay... are you sure they are all pol, I have bought chickens in the past that have been sold as pol and they were in fact newly moulted and at the end of their lay! They were bluebells which is a hybrid, I learnt a lot then.

If you are feeding all the right things then I would watch and hope, nothing more you can do really but make sure the eggs are removed quickly or they may take to eating them as most hens love soft shelled eggs.

Its not uncommon for a pol to lay a very small egg or sometimes 2 it will sort itself out in time.
The soft shells can be caused because they are not getting enough calcium, do you give them crushed oyster shells?

Thats great if you know for sure how old they are As Kelloggs says sometimes it can be lack of minerals but if the others are all laying ok then I doubt it is that. Fingers crossed it will sort iteslf out for you
