Stopped my chickens using the nest box for sleep

It took me a while but i succeeded. I put a big flower pot in the nest box at night to stop the chickens sleeping and pooing in there but they kept finding a way to squeeze in. It was driving me mad as i have an automatic pop hole opener but i would still have to go out early to remove the obstruction so they could lay eggs. Now they seem happy to perch and roost properly now

My girls are ex battery hens and i thought that their feet might be sore or something and thats was why they wouldnt perch but it was pure laziness

So, if you have the same problem just persevere. It took mine a few weeks to get the hint.

You do realise that ex battery hens would have never perched in their lives before so be gentle with them, so nothing whatsoever to do with laziness. They would be used to living, laying and staying in one spot. Glad you persevered.

I forgot to mention that i got them from someone that rescues them. He has them a few weeks until their combs are nice and red and upright then he sells them on. They probably only perched for a short while before i got them so i see your point.

They both roost on the higher perch together so i think they are happy now. Well, they always seem to be laughing when i go up the garden
