Re: Omlet eglus????
Sorry Becca, I can't help much with personal expeerience of eglus myself, i'm a build it myself or convert type of guy. I know they are very popular with new keepers as they are very easy to maintain given they are pressure washable, my only concern really with them is their size, I certainly wouldn't want to keep more than their minimum of 2 in one, their is also the lack of shelter during bad weather, also for the money you would spend on an eglu ( £353)
you could buy two 6x4 sheds, have money spare to convert, buy your chooks/ducks and get supplies to get started.Justin |

Re: Omlet eglus????
Yes i agree, they look all jazzy but i certainly wouldnt spend that on one, you can get a walk in chicken coop for £110 off e bay, i have some for my ferrets and they are very good.
i suppose if space was very very limited then they may be ok but you can still buy a small coop for £99

Re: Omlet eglus????
i only have two hens now so one of these woudl be perfect to tuck in the corner or the garden and keep them draught proff in winter, i woudlnt want the run though as they are free range i bet they are still silly money though.

Re: Omlet eglus????
We've had our Eglu for about 6 years now and it's fab. I'd only recommend keeping a pair of full sized chooks in it though, possibly three at a push as it's not very big. Very easy to clean and move about, and completely fox proof so far, although you obviously need to lock them in at night.
We now use it for our bantams and our chooks are in a bigger house we got on Ebay. If you can afford it, and want something bijou and easy to look after, then I'd say go for it. If you are likely to want to increase your chooks, then maybe go for something bigger. They do hold their value very well though, so you're unlikely to end up very out of pocket if you decide to sell it on. |

I have just ordered my eglu go which is slightly cheaper than the eglu original (330/360). The reason I ordered this product as it comes set up and with chickens, and that my mum (who I live with) wouldn't like a big coop that rats and foxes get into. I will only be keeping 2 chickens and maybe a rescue one???. Have I done the right thing? please justify my spend!

Re: Omlet eglus????
Chicken update: I cancelled my eglu order and bought a second hand one for £250 plus I bought chickens*2/food/straw/egg cases/a book for £50. The eglu took ages to put up. My younger brother (12) and I spent most of the day putting it up. Called omlet up for some advice and the lady just read the instructions back to me which was really unhelpful. The eglu and chickens are now up and running. Wooohooo!

Re: Omlet eglus????
The OH and I aren't too shabby with DIY so I'd never spend that amount of money on a chicken coop.
If we were terrible at DIY I'd probably buy a wooden and mesh walk in coop or a shed and run for a similar amount of money. I think the eglus are horrendously expensive for what they are. |
