When will my Chickens Lay?

I Have had my 2 chickens Betty and Edie for about 4 weeks now. They are about 8 months old. but niether have a comb,
-do all chickens have one?
-or are they still growing?
-Edie is very red in the face which i heard means laying will happen soon or doesn't it?
They seem quite happy, any help will do thanks!!

I also have 2 ducks, they are 3/4 cambpell and 1/4 runner- i've read that cambpells are good layers. They are about the same age as the chickens. will they lay soon.

Or is it just because it is Winter???

thanks again Jennaxx
Merry Christmas everyone!!

Re: When will my Chickens Lay?

I have had eggs all winter, 2 of my little bantams have carried on laying. I don't have any heat/lights on either! We have just bought some point of lay pullets & they are laying like mad at the minute, they started about a week ago

Are you sure that you haven't got cockerels? Only asking because we have been there & done that twice!! Bought what we thought were hens & they weren't!

Re: When will my Chickens Lay?

Eight months is quite mature for first time layers They usually start to lay at about 5-6 months, you say they have no combs yet??? what breed are they?
