Dead Sparrows

I have found 2 dead sparrows in my garden today, very unusual. Anyone know of any bird disease going around and if so does it affect chickens?

Re: Dead Sparrows

I don't think it affects chickens - there was a disease specific to sparrows going around a few years ago - so much so that their numbers dropped drastically and people were worrying about them becoming endangered, they are now on the increase again. About 4yrs ago we had a spate here - I found about 7 dead or dying sparrows in our yard over about 3 months at the end of summer and the cats did catch far more than normal - you could just walk up to them and pick them up. I think it goes through populations at random - if you google it I'm sure you'll find plenty of info, but I have chooks and it never affected them.

Re: Dead Sparrows

there is alot of canker going going around in gardens birds at the moment.
wildlife rehabbers are advising that bird feeders are cleaned out at least once a week.
