Smile Just stared laying.....

Hi there,

I have 2 ducks who are now 17 weeks old.

I have a white campbell who isnt laying yet (although I have found 2 white jelly eggs recently) and a dark campbell who is. The eggs are blue so that is how I have established which duck it is but they are very ramdom...

One day we get a large egg which is always a double yoker the next we may get the same followed by a small egg about the size of a mini cadburys cream egg! The next we may have none and then a small and then a large egg again!

I know she is obviously getting used to it but I just find it odd that we always get double yokers when they are large and sometimes she lays 2 in a day be they big or small.

Is this normal? Can the large eggs be eaten?

They are fairly young to be laying but the breeder tells me that it shows they have a good diet to start early (15 weeks).

The eggs also have tiny red bits in the yokes sometimes? Like a dash of blood. Is this OK?

Any advise or tips would be appriciated.

Thanks

Re: Just stared laying.....

Hi welcome to the forum

There is nothing to worry about its because they are young and just started laying it will sort its self out soon.

The RED BIT ,It can often happen when a bird is new to laying, or has just started again after a break. Blood spots occur when either a bit of tissue or blood is released along with a yolk, It is very common so nothing to worry about there either,
you can get them in chicken eggs you buy off the self but its very rare as the eggs get checked and if found they throw them away as people in this country are very fussy.
The eggs are safe to eat but if you dont like i there just remove it out with a folk
