New duck - need lots of advice plz

I have a new pet duckling, had him since tuesday. this woman gave him to me. dont know much about them really but had to take him else she was going to abandon him, hes a domestic house duck apparently. He seems very tame and well handled and loves affection.

Can anyone tell me what i need to know , and how to look after him properly? is he ok alone or does he need a friend? food? can ya litter train them? any advice and info will be appreciated.

Your picture of your duckling

Its hard to tell what breed of duck it is being so young but from doing a bit of googling it does look like a mallard duckling like you said. The only thing i did notice is that your duckling has a pinkish beak but the google ones have black beaks.

So if it is a mallard duckling you will need to clip its wing when its older and got its adult feather as they can fly.

If you can find out exactly what breed it is then ill know abit more about it.

Re: New duck - need lots of advice plz

thanks for uploading pic. yeah we think hes a mallard. how or where do i get his wings clipped and will it cause him any pain?

i made him a nappy earlier , perfect fit but then we decided not to use it as we was worried he may be cruel to him.

Hi
If you have any poultry places around you they will clip his wing or when he has adult feathers get a diagram uploaded its very easy on it dont hurt in anyway.

I have heard people putting nappys on ducks before so no dont think its cruel, you cant potty train them so a nappy is the next best thing.

A diagram is a picture lol. ill put one up of some duck feathers you need to cut off,

To tell if its a boy or girl you will need to vent sex it, its not hard to do but you have to be careful not to do any damage to the bird.
Ill find some images later to show you hows its done.

The other ways you will find out is when its got its adult feathers the male is colourful and the female is brown on a mallard, or a female quacks and a male dont.
