There is nothing to worry about ducks dont lay every day of the year.
Some ducks will stop for one day some upto a week, One of mine just stop for about 6 days and just started again yesterday

Talking Re: new duck any reason

Hi chicken run thank you for the reassurance she last laid an egg monday just gone and 1 on sunday ive kept a close eye on her and all seems fine shes a perky little girl very nosey and trot over making a little cooing noise she seems to do this when shes getting some greenstuff which she loves and when you sit and talk to her she just wants to know whats going on with what ever your doing shes so so sweet, i wondered if may be i was not getting something quite right and she was ill upset or stressed with her new home ive been so worried one of the drakes keeps trying to take her into there house!!!!! but hes quite shy and takes a backseat not very ready to come to any of us hes the one who hollowed her out a nest area and thats where she laid her last egg i wasnt too sure if they were like chickens and became egg bound my friend has chickens and duck and ended up having an ill one in the house ever 6-8 weeks and little even lost some.
im getting used to their little ways and managing to get to grips with what little bits and pieces they do mean i thought i was going to be at a total lost and i know i have an awful lot of learning to do yet im not too sure what i was expecting but they have already managed to teach me quite alot already. we are really enjoying them.

Im so glad you are enjoying them, they are nice things to have in any garden so entertaining to watch, just watching them doing their own thing is very calming on the mind.

tho mine sometimes can be a pain in the bum lol eating my potatoe plant leafs even tho they got chicken wire around them haha and not wanting to go in there house at night, it is all part of the fun.

There is so much to learn but just take it one step at a time even im still learning.

Im in the middle of doing a website on what i have learnt over the couple of years to help beginners on how to incubate, looking after ducklings/ducks, different breeds of ducks so people can see what they look like and what breed is best for them and of coarse selling page for my eggs and ducklings.
Im still debating on the name tho what do you think of garden quackers?

Smile Re: new duck any reason

He he i can imagine the potato plants is a pain but they do seem to love greens!!! what a really good idea doing a website i personally found the whole thing of trying to find info a bit difficult i searched loads and so much info that didnt seem quite right then found this forum had a look through, and realised where better than someones wealth of experiance so i think the website is an excellent idea and i think the name sums it all up and puts it in a nutshell,i think that would really help an awful lot of people, poultry and waterfowl are definately becoming more and more popular and ive wanted ducks since i was a kid myself.and finally i have them
let us all know once its up and running coz i will certainly advice people to link to as youve given me some good solid advice.
and bedtime tonight was no problem all i did was say" in you go" and off they went couldnt believe it.

Re: new duck any reason

I wish my ducks would eat their greens!!!! I have 2 call ducks and they're worse than children when it comes to vegetables! They will eat the grass in the garden (especially if it's had the hose on it they love that!) but they downright refuse to eat greens of any kind! I was advised to give them watercress as apparently they love it. . .so I did. . .they ignored it. . .I then tried giving it them on their swimming water and they just played with it throwing it around. ..they would much rather pretend my fingers are worms and have a nibble on them than eat their veg! ahaha fortunately anything i give them that they don't eat. . .the chickens hoover it up anyway!

Re: new duck any reason

Haha told you there was nothing to worry about.

Mine dont eat anything other than layer pellets and mixed corn, if there is anything different they look at it and walk off bloody fussy lot.

Re: new duck any reason

My female duck had managed to hatch her first clutch in 25th february and her ducklings are growing feathers already!! They also started quacking! She is not friendly at all when it comes to baby "protection"!!

My ducks' main food is pellets... But I feed them a wide variety of things like watermelons, tomatoes, mealworms, lettuce, cucumbers, appeles, bananas peaches, grapes, dates ( dates fall from our palm trees to the ground) and i feed them feeder fish but on rare occasions! And the list goes on....!
