Suitable for how many?

Hi, Getting some chickens soon and in the process of building a run and hunting out suitable housing. Best prices seem to be on ebay for ready built coops.
Will be getting 3 or 4 chickens, not sure of size, just told that we'll probably be given hybrids. Which of these 2 would be more suitable?

CHICKEN HEN HOUSE COOP POULTRY ARK RUN BRAND NEW | eBay UK

or

COCOON CHICKEN HEN HOUSE COOP POULTRY ARK RUN BRAND NEW | eBay UK

Thanks in advance

Re: Suitable for how many?

Either will do the job i wouldnt put more than 4 large foul in there
If it was me i wouldnt bother with either as normaly its cheap crap wood that dont last 3 months and leaks
My advice build your own or get some one to build it for you that way you get what you want the size you want and you no it will last and it work out cheaper
But it up to you at end of day its what you will be happy with

Re: Suitable for how many?

I think either would be fine. What is just as important is the size of the run they will have.

Re: Suitable for how many?

We've had a bit of a rethink and are now looking at the recycled plastic Solway chicken houses.
Started on the run today, it's to fit an irregular shaped piece of garden but will be around 3 metres long and 2.5 wide and head height. They will also get to free range around the garden. If we can ferret proof it, I guess it will be chicken proof too (obviously not at the same time )

Sounds lovely! Plastic houses are nice and easy to clean.

How long until you get your chickens?

Re: Suitable for how many?

We are going to look at some on Tuesday, have no idea what type apart from all hens
I had been thinking of some ex-battery hens originally, but somebody has some going 'cheep' *groan* (like you've never heard that one before! )
should be free in fact (hopefully says I )

Had written off Eglus due to the horrible price, but showed Hubby a Fried Egglu, and am now having one delivered Wednesday! :P

Totally EGGcited !! *groan#2*

Re: Suitable for how many?

Well.....
went to see the chicks Tuesday, but didn't come home with any. Picking them up tomorrow they are about 6 weeks old atm. They are Welsummers.

The Fried Egglu turned up this morning, as stated, but it is going back. I was surprised at how tiny it is, and as the birds we are getting aren't small when fully grown, really didn't think it was suitable. It was also scuffed
For £280 I expect perfect condition (don't care if it would get scuffed in time, at least then it would be my scuffs, not the warehouse floor! or is that fussy? )

Getting a Solway instead, already ordered and possibly on it's way.

I have a Solway mini (among other houses) and I am very impressed with it. I agree with the comments about the cheap ebay housing. They are generally cheap Chinese imports which are knocked together here and sold as UK made. The wood isn't mature, and is poor quality anyway, and they don't last much more than a year.
