Wood Bark!

Just wondered if I could put wood bark in the large run area for my chickens?

I have had them for a few weeks and they have completely devasted the nice grass area they where on, and with the rain the past few days it is just a mud bath. They do get to free range in the garden for most of the day but at times I need to put them in their own area.

Do you think wood bark wood be ok or is there something else I can use to make it less muddy underfoot, ......apart from some nice sunshine!

Many thanks x
