Question What do they eat?

Hi everyone,
I am an unexperienced person sitting here trying to learn how to provide basic care to hens..

My question is, what exactly am I suppose to feed my hens?
They are ex-battery hens-who were used for laying eggs. I read somewhere that I must feed them the same diet as they were feed in the batteryfarms or else they will not eat and starve themselves as they would not recognise it as food..is this true?

Secondly, I would like if some of them layed any eggs so again which particular food will be good?

What do you feed your hens?
Are any of below foods any good?
Are they good price too?
Is there any other store you recomend me to buy from?

Re: What do they eat?

start them on off on the ex battery cumb and slowy add diffrent food to they will soon get used to it i feed layers mash they also do layers pellets
give them greens like cabbage leaf or let them on grass chickens WILL EAT ANYTHING and i mean any thing some things aint good for them but they will try it

give them some mixed corn as they will learnto scratch around and they will dig for worms and grubs etc

maske sure they have some grit in there feed as they need this to help with the egg shells

you can also boil up and veg peelings for them i mash mine up and mix with the layers mash makes a kind of crumble they love it and its got vitamins in the peelings that are good for them

also a bit of crushed garlic in the water can help them aswell
