A: It's hard to say as each rooster is different, but don't be surprised if they do start fighting and it gets violent. I had two that were raised together and they couldn't be in the same enclosure without fighting viciously. Yet I have two that were not raised together and get along just fine and stay out of each others way.
Q2- after a rooster had mated with a hen, when will she start laying eggs?
A2. Again, depends on the hen, it's breed, it's background etc. Mostly will depend on age, day length genetics etc. You should start getting eggs at about 9 months old. Mating doesn't really determine when they start laying in domestics, they don't need a rooster to lay.
Q3- is there a way to make roosters stop attacking the ducks and turkies?
A3. No, you need to keep them separate. A rooster will assert himself no matter what species are in his 'flock'.
Q4- I had read somewhere that roosters are usually protective birds... Why don't my roosters keep street cats away from the flock? The cats just come along and eat a chick infront of them.. Why won't they do anything? And is there a way to make them more protective?
A4. As far as chicks are concerned it's the hen that does the protecting, if she isn't a good mum then they will get picked off by predators unless you pen them in. You cannot make a rooster more protective, nor a hen.
I don't know if this will help at anything but my rooster's spurs aren't fully grown yet.
A. when his spurs get bigger he may start fighting more. Good luck!
Any help will be appreciated!!
