Exclamation No eggs! Advice please?!

Hi,

In June we bought 3 gorgeous hens-a Barnevelder, a Cochin and a Light Sussex, 2 were 16 weeks and the Cochin 14 weeks old. They are now about 24-26 weeks old and we have no eggs yet and no sign (crouching etc). We started giving them layers pellets at 24 weeks. Am I doing something wrong? How long do I have to wait? Am I just being impatient? Any advice welcome! Thanks

Re: No eggs! Advice please?!

My hens will/would (only have one left now ) only lay for treats!

So I give them porridge, rice, bananas, lettuce etc. Not all at one but one treat a day. If I forgot, then no eggs.

Re: No eggs! Advice please?!

Do they look mature?
Do they have good combs?
I think chickens develope at different rates.
My 3 black rocks came to lay quite quick, without fuss and have pretty much laid all year round for over a year now. I have 2 brown chickens, 1 only lays spasmodically, the other has never developed a proper comb and is rather fat and lazy, and I think has laid maybe 2 eggs if that. Dad says I should eat her but I can't cook 'Penny Chicken'!!
Be patient if they are happy and content they should lay.
Good luck

Re: No eggs! Advice please?!

I had chickens for 2 years before I got my dogs and they were fed everything by the book, they were happy and healthy and on the right kind of food they even had the run of 2 gardens,
How many eggs did i get over that 2 year period?...........2
Yep thats right 2 eggs over 2 years by 3 chickens, to be honest I never worried over it i only bought them as I was trying to get over my fear of birds so my main concerns really were making sure they were happy and healthy and didn't peck my eyes out
