Rescued Baby Chicks :)

I just got myself two rescued chicks from a friend's pet snake, Their poor cries made me helpless and I had to rescue them. I decided I'll raise them in my yard as a natural pest control.
Anyway when I was transferring them to my place, they got out their box and ran away. There was a light rain and it got really hot.

When I found them they were under a brush. They seem kind of scared and shaky. They are still that way and one of them's voices seems kind of cracked?

I never had chicks before and I was wandering if anyone can give me some basic tips and advice. I was also wandering if the chicks could be possibly sick and if so how do I cure them?

Re: Rescued Baby Chicks :)

If I were you I would put the chicks in warm, cosy place, insulated against drafts, such as underneath a heat lamp in a box, or even in an airing cupbourd. You should feed them on mashed hard-boiled egg, along with chick crumbs. (you should be able to buy both a heat lamp and chick crumbs at a local pet shop). Be prepared that if the chicks have got wet, their chances are not that great. Try to keep an eye on the chicks and make sure that they do not escape again. Make sure they have water in a shallow container which they are able to drink from. If you put water in a deep container, the chicks are able to get in and drown.

Hi there

I was just reading your post and wondered how your little chicks are?

Re: Rescued Baby Chicks :)

2 have died but the suviviors are doing well. They had some kind of high fever and two didn't make it but the ones that did are doing well. They are running around my yard like crazy, the only thing is they are also eating my earthworms which annoys me.

They are both male so I hope they don't start fighting when they get older. Maybe I should buy a female too. Its funny watching them look for insects in my yard.

Hi

Thats fantastic news. I dont like worms much but I do admit they do a great job for my veg patch!

We are just setting up ready for some hens who are arriving late this month and are very excited.
