Thumbs down Glouc: 5-YO gets facial-bite from GSD-x (adopted Sat; bite Mon)

A five year-old boy has been attacked in Matson, Gloucester, by his pet dog | news | This is Gloucestershire

* both dog + mother were in kitchen -
* child entered and *began stroking his head*
- where was the dog? sitting? lying? where was the child? looming?
leaning against him? were they BOTH under the table?
(many dogs retreat under tables to get some privacy)

** Mom was Not Watching - she HEARD her son scream -
she did not SEE the bite, nor what led to it (or if she did,
she does not understand what she saw, and what it meant).

so of course - since she did not see the bite, and he was ONLY
*petting the dog*... its the dogs fault.

Re: Glouc: 5-YO gets facial-bite from GSD-x (adopted Sat; bite Mon)

Here we go again, this is a story that is in the papers far too often.
NEVER asume it's ok to leave a child with a dog, especially a five year old,

They haven't even had chance to get to know this dog so how can they asume it's safe around children on the say so of a complete stranger??

The dog has been taken from it's home, dumped into another and expected to just settle in to living their family life with no settling in period, she asumes her child has done nothing to upset this dog but how does she know? Did she not see the child aproaching as an invite to get down on the floor and put the dog at ease...has she introduced the dog to the child gradually? Has she seen what the dog has seen...a complete strager approaching him? how does she know the dog hasnt been pulled around by a child in the past...has he had enough and snapped? has the child poked or pulled him and ............OH of course not, silly me...it's all the big bad mean dogs fault because the previous owner said he was ok with kids.....and of course this has to be true doesnt it.....GRrrrrrrr

Be carefull for everything you do. Don't trust a dog for your child's protection.
