Thumbs up USA: Toll-Free national Puppy-Mill hotline opens for business! yay...

1-887-MILL-TIP -- Wednesday December 9th, 2009

Toll-Free Hotline for Reporting Puppy Mills Launched
If you've ever suspected a breeder of running a puppy mill,
there's now a toll-free hotline you can call to report it:
1-877-MILL-TIP.

The Humane Society of the United States, who launched the hotline on Friday, December 4,
hopes it will help free more dogs from the abusive conditions at these illegal breeding facilities.

Help to stop the profiteering, and shut-down an industry that produces genuine
misery,
while selling a fake happy-picture.. this has gone on for far too-long.
I think the hot-line is a brilliant idea!

Very cool...

Don't think we have all that many members in America, so you perhaps won't get much response about something so specific to your country.

Smile Re: How about a UK Pup-Mill hotline? maybe?...

hey, lu! :--)

thanks for the reply, but i was not so much concerned re a USA response -
i thought maybe the UKs big-guns might consider such a hotline themselves -
800-line rates have dropped enormously, i was paying 12-cents a minute for my own
national 800-number, more than 10-years ago.

having somebody CALL and say, Yo, ya know, my neighbor down the street has one dog + 3 bitches,
and they average a litter every 3 to 5 months...

would get the attn of the animal-welfare far more early + effectively, vs

OMG -
they moved out, and there are 4 dogs and ten scrawny pups, all left behind for a WEEK with no care...
i am all for acting =Before= a crisis, if at all possible, LOL...
cheers,

I reckon you must be way ahead of us on animal welfare, though we do have a fairly recent new law that might be helping, I don't really know enough about the subject to say, but certainly before this law it was very hard to get any action on ill treatment.

oh, boy, i wish - but nope.

the UK is better in terms of pets day to day handling + management -
prong collars, shock + choke collars are still popular items Stateside,
and U still get funny looks using a headcollar - which has been on the market
for 20-years? 30-years? long time, anyhow!

from Ur lips to DoG;s ear, i would pray for that! anything that gets better
or more clear standards, improved enforcement, etc, i am ALL for it.
sadly, many animal-cruelty offenses are still a slap on the wrist.

still - with pitbulls as a role-model, LOL - i am NOT giving-up.
cruelty and neglect are serious issues with ripple effects that go way-past not being nice to the puppy,
or giving a yard-pet only food + water, not social contact, etc.
abuse + neglect are the tip of an iceberg, and these issues deserve more than lip-service, IMO.

cheers,
--- terry

Puppy Mills are a Big problem here in the States, millions literally bred for sale to pet stores, online, newspaper ads. The conditions in the puppy mills are horrendous, the dogs have no vetinary (sp?) very little food or water, cages are never cleaned of feces and urine, ad infinitum. check out the HSUS web site and ASPCA The Humane Society of the United States : The Humane Society of the United States, and ASPCA: The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The only objective is to make money at these mills.
