What do you all think of this?

Hi,

I read this is in the Daily mail this morning and would love everyones views.I have suspected this from my own vets over the years, but reading this really upset and angered me a great deal. It also would put people off taking their pets to the vets for the fear they won't get the right treatment or their lives would be prolonged for all the wrong reasons!

Why I'm ashamed to be a vet: a shocking expose of the profession that puts pets through 'painful and unnecessary treatments to fleece their trusting owners' | Mail Online

Izzie

Re: What do you all think of this?

I read this just now, and I must say I am absolutely appalled by this, especially the part where it say's that vets will google clients postcodes to see which area they live in. (basically to see if they are rich or poor! and if the vet can take advantage)

Even veterinary practices have cowboys in the field.

You'l always find someone with zero morals thinking of the pennies. Doctors included in this! You put your trust in these people, unless you are a vet yourself chances are you wont have the knowledge to diagnose, assess or treat your pet so you take them to someone who knows! Just be careful. If you doubt the ethics of your vet, get a second opinion.

There are people like this in any profession. If you have any doubts get a second opinion or a new vet

Re: What do you all think of this?

I don't agree with much of what he said. It may be that because my vet is particularly good at trying to minimise costs (they know I only work part time and my cat is too old for pet insurance) and allow me to pay large fee's like operations in installments. They could have dragged out treatment for my cats thyroid problem but instead operated as soon as they realised that medication wasn't going to work. She had been losing weight rapidly but after her operation she recovered and is now a good weight and happily living out the rest of her life.

What he said about cats suffering from bladder, pelvis problems after a car accidents and just putting to sleep I seriously don't agree with as I've had experience of having my sisters cat suffer from a ruptured bladder and a broken pelvis after a car accident and after an op to repair the bladder and rest for the fracture, the cat went on to live another 5 years quite happily and healthily.

I may disagree because I've not had experience with money grabbing vets. But people also have to remember that they have a choice in their pets treatment. If you don't agree with what the vet says, you can either go to another vet or choose not to take the treatment.
