Cool cat stuck in air-conditioner

A TERRIFIED cat which was stuck in an airconditioning unit at premises in Brisbane for five days has been rescued by RSPCA officers.

The owner of a property at Coorparoo on Brisbane's eastside had reported hearing strange noises coming from the air-conditioner on Sunday but had passed it off as rats.

RSPCA officers Katrina Farmer and Amanda Yates were shocked to find a terrified female cat trapped in an old air-conditioning unit.

Officers are now concerned about finding the owners of Daikin, named after the airconditioning unit in which she was found, because the desexed female has not been microchipped.

"When we got out there we saw this very old aircon unit built in the 1970s, a real dinosaur of a thing," said RSPCA ambulance officer Katrina Farmer. "We thought we might be dealing with rats at first, the smell of urine was so pungent."

The cat was found when the unit was pulled from the wall.

"She was unable to get out because the turbine was blocking the way," Ms Farmer said.

RSPCA veterinarian Vicki Lomax said Daikin was on the mend after the ordeal.
