Re: dear Divine, the weather in Tidewater-VA is insane...
And we're complaining about 10 inches of snow here

3-pm -
dear Lady of Chaos, i'm back - and very unhappy. I AM THE ONLY ONE who cleared my walkway, And i Am Not On The Street; the only person who typically uses my walk, is me. the bayside-avenue is insane, with a steady 35 to 40-MPH horizontal gale of stinging, blinding snow; another 2-inches fell while i ate my leftovers-brunch, and it's still pelting down. i had to satisfy myself with a pint of ice-cream, 2 slices of flan from the tacqueria, and a pint of Starbucks for 'cream' in my decaf. despite 2 pair pants, 2 pair sox and boots, my pantlegs are damp to my calves from postholing thru snow. the wind is driving so hard, the 4 x 4 verticals of my deck have over an inch of snow plastered on the windward side. every leaf, twig and power-line is heavy with snow; and my heat is electric. MERCY - please spare us a power-outage! they average 4 to 5 days here; the neighborhood has no compelling public-interests [school, hospital, major corp-employer...]. sincerely, - t |

4-pm -
dear Mother of All, the wind-chill is 17-degrees Fahrenheit, and 8-inches of snow are standing anywhere the gale has not scoured the ground; where the wind has peeled the snow, there is a crackle-glass layer of 3/4-inch ice, plus an inch of squeaky hard-pack powder - perfect for slipping and falling. the ruts where 4-wheel-drive vehicles have passed carve criss-cross slices 10-inches deep; when those freeze, it will be H***. AND NO CITY-PLOW has done any cross-streets, yet. shopping at 7-11 is an oxymoron, but traveling by bus in this? waiting in the blizzard on the bayside street? inconceivable; tomorrow's special is black beans. the wind is supposed to hold at 25-mph with gusts; the ambient-temp is expected to reach a high of 34-F, or 2-degrees above freezing. any chance of a window of opportunity? i'd really appreciate it. sincerely, - t |
