Re: Chameleons are not pets.

I don't think camaleon are pets.
In their lands they are at risk of extinction because of pollution, habitat depletion and now even this unsustainable pet idea.
Isn't it illegal to own a chamaleon?

I hate even to see them in museums.
Chamaleons should stay where they want like other animals.

When I want to know the level of civilization reached by actual society I look for similar sites.

Re: Chameleon

>.< Yes chameleons can be kept as pets.
We have a gorgeous yemen chameleon at college.
she loves nothing more than when we get her out and she gets to be stroked by the school children who come on visits

Re: Chameleon are not pets.

The habitat of chamaleons is not a school not a university, not a museum, not a pet definition.
Some serious science studies the habitat of chamaleons with the aim to save them.
ScienceDirect - Biological Conservation : Habitat selection of the common chameleon (Chamaeleo chamaeleon) (L.) in an area under development in southern Spain: implications for conservation
(But I find strange reforestation that could be seen as a positive thing in this case is considered negative for chamaleons.Strange.)
Really I would not feel happy owning a chamaleon.
I understand every wildlife is in danger today

Pet owners rsponsible choices would contribute save biodiversity.

Re: Chameleons are not pets

When tropical species or even not tropical but simply wild species become or are used as pets wildlife is depleted and their habiotats is destructed.
More often wildlife trade as pets is linked to habitat destruction and having these animals as pets could mean supporting animal experiments:
example of animal experiment http://en.scientificcommons.org/1833132
even chamaleons become a source for some kind of objectionable activities.
What's the aim of this study, producing an eye drop for captive reptiles ?(this then would lead to the vet bills thread if it exists). Is chamaleon a business?Does anybody care for them really?

I support the conservation of chamaleons habitat like every wild life.
ScienceDirect - Biological Conservation : Habitat selection of the common chameleon (Chamaeleo chamaeleon) (L.) in an area under development in southern Spain: implications for conservation
ScienceDirect - Biological Conservation : The impacts of international and national governance changes on a traded resource: a case study of Madagascar and its chameleon trade

Does anybody that owns a chamaleons thinks it is happy to be out of its habitat and used as a pet?
I should change my username in chamaleon defender
