Hi Everyone,

We have just launched our new excellent Pet Forums Encyclopedia. The encyclopedia is user contributed, which means that all of our registered members can contribute and edit the encyclopedia. I'm hoping that everyone will get involved and add information to the encyclopedia to help it become the best pet resource on the internet.

We have categories for every pet type including 'Dogs', 'Cats', 'Birds', 'Horses', 'Reptiles', 'Fish', 'Rabbits' and 'Rodents'. For each pet type there are two main types of pages which can be created, a 'Breed Profile' and 'Pet Article' page.

The Pet Encyclopedia can be accessed by the 'Pet Encyclopedia' tab at the top of every page.

We have created a detailed Editors Guide which you can read to teach you how to update the Pet Encyclopedia.

If you are knowledgeable on a specific pet breed or are good at writing articles, i.e. good at writing articles such as ones on topics like 'Dog Training' or articles on any subject related to any pet then please get involved and contribute to make this encyclopedia extremely useful to the rest of our visitors.

If you click on the 'Dicussion' tab at the top of any page in the encyclopedia, a new thread in this forum section will be automatically created to discuss that page.

Any questions you have at all about using, editing or anything else about the Pet Encyclopedia, please ask in this forum and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Hi Jacky,

The photos need to be uploaded to the encyclopedia before you can use them. I've done this with your fancy rat photo. Instructions are in the Editors guide.

Just nipped on over for a nose and see someone has put the dog groups in but I am baffled at the Spitz dog group section - there isnt a Spitz group...
It should be
Gundog
Hound
Pastoral
Working
Terrier
Toy
Utility
Can some one who knows what they are doing change it - as at present its miss leading to members

Yes that was me!! I've been doing a lot of research and realise there isnt a Spitz dog group. I think people class the northern type dogs as 'Spitz-Type' rather than a group, I will ammend it shortly.

If ya need any help with groups or breed standards then giz a yell but I have been over and the editing side actually did my head in LOL I dont get it but happy to post here and you cut and paste it over LOL

Also I see the Kyi Leo is listed in the dog breeds - the breed is not yet recognized by any formal kennel authority !!!

If you want to add any new pages to the encyclopedia or edit any existing ones, send me a pm and I will gladly help you do it or update the pages for you.

Regarding the Kyi Leo breed, i want the encyclopedia to hold information on every breed and every pet topic there is, even if the breed is not yet recognised. This could be stated on the actual page. People may still be interested in information on this breed.

When I am more awake I will suss out how to edit etc and put some stuff in there. I see where you are coming from with all breeds but how far you wanna go with it...the Kyi Leo is a cross breed, you will be here for years on end trying to add all mixed breeds, cockapoo, yorkiepoo, labradoole etc etc etc....how about doing a seperate page called Popular Cross Breeds and place them in there so people can still read up on them - although obviously not much can be said about temprements or breed traits....knobody really knows the answers to them
If I get to the stage of wanting to throw my laptop out the window when trying to add anything to it I will pm ya LOL

As the encyclopedia is a user contributed encyclopedia i'm happy for people to enter information about any cross breed as long as information is factual. Although it is a user contributed encyclopedia I'm still trying to add as much information as I can personally. Im hoping as it gets more popular a lot more people will volunteer to help. I know cross breeds arent recognised by the kennel club, but many of our visitors may be interested in reading about them.

As for editing the encyclopedia, once you get used to it, it is very easy to add new pages and update existing ones. The editors guide I wrote should hopefully give you some good advice. If your still unsure about anything please just ask.
