Yes, I saw a couple on crufts last year - they are very fast. You can imagine how alarming it is seeing one of those coming barrelling across towards you at full speed... And my friend in Oz owned Kira's sister (ie same litter) so the two of them really egged each other on, much to our frustration! Yes, it was only when she was a puppy that the wheelchair was interesting. As she got older she was only interested in things that were going at a respectable speed. I still remember it with such discomfort, I'm so glad those days are behind me! Getting berated by complete strangers, particularly when they are completely justified is really no fun at all!

yes, kelpies are quite like collies but with an independent streak that can never be quite tamed, they say (the dingo in them, i guess). They're almost universally used in Oz as sheep dogs due to their intelligence, their agility and their durability (they're small, they eat less food, they do well in extremes of temperature ie hot and cold). Kira is nearly 13, but it took till she was about 7 for me to stamp out her need to chase things with wheels. Cars I managed to stop pretty quickly, but bicycles! Well, even now I can see a little flicker in her eye when one goes past... Once when she was a puppy she chased a man in a wheelchair... imagine how embarrassing that was! Still, he was a dog person and understood kelpies and so was actually rather amused at my mortification, thank goodness. Yes, Finn (the bc) has been a piece of cake compared to Kira's puppyhood, but Kira was my first dog and taught me a lot. Goodness, got a bit waffly there, sorry

Tis a small world indeed - we are near Worksop and regularly walk the dogs in Clumber Park! Re the bergies' coats - they are really low maintenance cos it all happens on its own - all we do is brush them every day, trim around their feet if necessary, and hose them down with water if they need a bath! It's the drying that takes the time - we'll be bathing Baggio today ready for City of Birmingham champ show on Saturday!
