    Hi ajshep,
I'm more of a "all things in moderation' person. I do what seems to suit my dog best, taking into account what I have learned from both my own and my family's experience, and what I have read, and what I learned when I used to work as a Vet's nurse (when Vet's had to use "people " nurses, because vet nurses hadn't been invented yet!). I like to think I'm old enough to bring a bit of commonsense to what I decide. I like to feed the meat portion of my dog's food raw, and the eggs, vegies and rice parts cooked (more digestible) but she loves raw carrots so I let her have one to chew occasionally - it passes through pretty much the same as it went in, but I figure it's doing no harm, and is probably good for her teeth. She's not much good with raw bones now because of having gnawed away at so many.
She's sixteen, and in very good health since I changed to "real" food two years ago. Before I changed her, she was nearly dead! But the first ten years of her life, she mostly kept herself fed by hunting. I believe that if she'd been on commercial dog food all her life, she'd be dead long ago. Looking back, I'm horrified that I caved in to convenience and fed her on processed muck for 4 years. It was Iams - I thought it was high quality!!
Sorry, long post, probably much more info than you wanted.
