lol, no idea why I thought you said Border Collie. Rough Collie and Shetland Sheepdogs? Someone grew up watching Lassie methinks.

I can sympathise with the classes, around here they seem to be getting a bit lacklustre every year. I've had some enquiries for puppy classes and obedience classes myself, just not sure if I have the patience to deal with more than one dog (ok I lied, one owner) at a time.

What do you think your dog missed out on this time around?

Ah, a penchant for the sheepdogs eh?

Has your border tried biting your ankles yet? lol, they will try and herd everyone and everything, from small children to cars. Still, a magnificent dog, as I said in another post, us dog behaviourists have a love/hate relationship with them. They make us look incredibly good, but on the other hand, we make very little money from them with hourly rates, lol!

I had a border collie a few week backs who had problems with lead pulling. Took me 8 minutes to teach the dog, I had to spend the first 40 minutes teaching the owner on a bucket of dirt.

"Why am I doing this on a bucket of dirt?"
"Because your collie is gonna pick this up a lot faster than you, haha"

Very intelligent dogs and they learn relly quickly, problem with that is that they learn bad habits just as quick, which can be a right pain in the neck!

As accomplished as I think of myself as an owner, I really wouldn't ever be able to own a dog that was a wolf hybrid. Too much uncertainty with them I find, they really need more control. In terms of Mal's, I wouldn't go as far to call them a wolf hybrid, they are typically working dogs and whilst they do have closer ties to wolves than the average dog, I think the generations have somewhat dispersed the uncertainty that can occur.

Still, he's a brilliant dog! I always wanted a dog that looked like a wolf, and in my more naive years, I even thought about owning a wolf or wolf hybrid (thank god I didn't as I didn't know half the stuff I know now), I saw an advert in the paper selling an Alaskan Malamute and I seriously thought it was a fancy name for a husky!

I did a lot of research before I got him, about his dietary needs and how I can match his work ethic. Last year, I constructed a sled with wheels and gentley reared him pulling objects around the field to improve his strength and stamina. Once he hit 18 months (when his body was fully developed), I slowly got him pulling heavier objects and eventually, me! I still to this day, attract crowds down the local park just to see him pull me around, he absolutely loves it. He's just as good with rollerblades, although he knows now that without the sled, I'm not as heavy, lmao. Picked myself out of so many hedges on that first day.

Yeah I love the the Mal. I rescued a German X Wolf when she was 2 yrs old was a beaytiful dog she died when she was 12 but at least her last 10 yrs were happy ones. When I rescued her she had 6 pups and the guy had no money to feed her or her pups. I would never go out to buy a hybrid wolf as they like the Mal take a special owner. Surprisingly there aren't a lot of Mals in my area only about 12 or so. But my goodness they are beautiful...Jill
