Possibly Stolen Dog - Bull Mastiff Fawn

Hi, I recently bought a Bull Mastiff from a 'friend of a friend' and am having difficulty finding out any of his history, so I am now wondering if he may have been stolen.
He has a wound on his neck which was old and festering by the time I got him, it occurred to me after a couple of days that it may be the result of someone trying to remove an identity chip. He is booked in at the vets on monday for castration and microchipping, but I don't want to castrate a dog if there is a chance that he belongs to someone else.

if he is microchiped then the vet can tell you who the owner is.

Why dont you pop into your local vets and just explain to them what you have said here! If it was stolen then they maybe be able to tell you from the chip!

Re: Possibly Stolen Dog - Bull Mastiff Fawn

Thanks for the replies.
The wound is a deep one, and it looks like someone may have tried to dig the chip out with a knife. A horrible thing to do but it's not the first time I've heard of it. The person I got it from said it was in a fight with another dog, but it certainly doesn't look that way.

I thought I would post around about it, in case the chip was removed and nothing shows up when we take it to the vet.

Re: Possibly Stolen Dog - Bull Mastiff Fawn

I dont think thats some one would ever be able to get the chip out..its the smallest of things and its doesnt always stay where put and can move some times ! The chip its put inbetween the shoulder blades..But then they can move.
If that is what some one has tried to do it is blimmin awful and sick
I think your best bet is to explain to the vets what you have said here and see if they can track a number..If not then get incontact with the local dog warden and say the same to them..Some one may have reported there dog as missing (That fits the look of the dog you have) to them or even the police..

As long as the wound is being treated i would hold off getting him castrated and chipped for now...

EDIT-to say may be worth having a look around some of the lost dog forums !
good luck

my god that sounds horific.....the chip is only about the same size of a grain of rice so no chance of removing it....plus they can move......

I would take him and get him scanned and obviously the most important thing to do is get the wound seen to....good luck...

Re: Possibly Stolen Dog - Bull Mastiff Fawn

Its actually quite easy to locate and remove a microchip.

Plus its all too common.
