Just wondering, first of all, how big is a six month old kitten? The reason I'm asking is that our neighbourhood is plastered with leaflets from owners who've lost their six month old colour-tabby(?) I saw a young tabby cat that I don't know a couple of days ago and then at 1.30 last night there was a lot of yowling and the same young tabby was on my fence, so I assume it must be new because other cats were trying to drive it away. it was quite shy of me both times but I put food out both times and it was gone within half an hour, though I can't be sure which cat ate the food of course. The cat was pretty small without being babycat-sized, so I'm wondering how big is a six month old in comparison with a fullgrown cat? From what I saw of it it looked remarkably similar to the lost cat. It was wearing a collar that seemed glow in the dark light grey in the gloom under the artificial street lighting and there was a tag dangling. The owners describe the collar as blue pattern (foreground) silver (background) reflective with silver disc ID. Owners are obviously desperate to get their cat back but I don't want to contact them and raise false hopes if I've got the wrong cat entirely. I also don't know what's meant by colour-tabby and the photo was black and way. This cat seemed normal beigy browny tabby with black stripes.

A PS Thanks to people who've given me advice on another thread about the size of a six month old cat, sounds hopeful. I still don't know whether to ring the tabby's owners because it just might be their cat or wait a few days and try to lure it back with food to get a look at its collar. I'm thinking if the owners came round and it was their cat then it might respond to the sound of their voices but on the other hand I don't want to raise their hopes for nothing. Wondering what's the best thing to do.

I would ring them, but state that you dont want to get their hopes up.

Yes, I think I should. I know it's only a slight chance of being their cat but it's just possible it could be. Any hope's better than none.

An update, I've just rung the people with the missing cat and it returned home six days ago. I'm pleased their cat is back, and the tabby that's hanging around my street must just belong to some new neighbours, but why don't people take their lost cat notices down when their cat returns?

Whenever you saw any cat lost at the street, kindly turn over it to the animal Lost organizations for you to help the owner.

In that way, they can easily found their lost pets.
