Re: Chameleon!
I dont find him at all difficult to look after, however I kept a lot of reptiles as a child/teenager including various snakes, gekos and a green iguana, so I do know the basics of reptile keeping!!
The most important thing with chams I think is to make sure you get the correct vivarium. They need a lot of ventilation and a mesh viv is the best idea (I have an exo terra flexarium and it is perfect!!) and they are cheap to buy which is a bonus!! They need adequate lighting, and UV of course. Dennis doesnt like his viv too hot, so he only has heat at night but that is just him, generally they require heat 24 hrs, it is something that may change with Dennis as he gets older. They need a high level of humidity so you either need some kind of drip system in the viv, or do what I do, and spray the entire vivarium a few times a day. They dont generally drink out of a bowl and will lick the droplets off the branches/vines, so its quite important to do this!! Here is Dennis having lunch: YouTube - Yemen Chameleon Eating They eat live insects (with calcium supplement dusting!) so you have to not be squeamish. I personally find it fascinating watching them eat but maybe im just a freak lol!! Here's some more pics of Dennis yesterday! Shedding AGAIN!! ![]() ![]() ![]()
